Tour des panoramas de Rome

Rome is beautiful, so beautiful that, I swear, nothing else seems to me to compare with it. In short, to tell you my thinking on Rome, it is not only the most beautiful city in the world, but it also is without a possibility of comparison with any other.

Charles de Brosses

Rome was founded on 7 hills and it’s perhaps for this very reason that there are many places in the city from where you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama. If to this we add the buildings, towers, domes or hot-air balloons, it’s safe to say that it’s as easy to see it from below as it is to encounter slightly higher ground during a walk from which to admire picture-postcard panoramas.
You can start from the Pincian Hill (which is not one of the original 7 hills) and go on to the Capitol, Aventine and Quirinal Hills, then ending the tour at the Janiculum Hill or at Monte Mario (the highest hill in Rome but once again not one of the original 7). The monuments that offer the best views are the Vittoriano complex, the dome of St. Peter’s and the third ring of the Colosseum, plus the hot-air balloon at Villa Borghese.

To do a really pleasant tour of the Roman high grounds, it’s better, however, to use some private means of transport so as not to waste time in long waits for public transport.
